I got this godawful flu that’s been going around. It kicked in right as a winter storm hit my area. A severe fever doesn’t play well with -20 temperatures.

Actually, it does! I need a reason to stay home in case they try to make me come to work tomorrow.

I know NOTHING
I wanted to chime in here for the first time in months, just because I saw the Nightmare Moon discussion/jokes above, and link to this, BUT it seems my computer/IP has been blacklisted by Youtube. Even on generic Chromium with no ad ons (not, this is not ungoogled chromium, but Debian’s package of generic plain old Chromium). Maybe they put in some sort of ad blocker or something but I don’t think so. I have tested with multiple videos and browsers. Haven’t tested the Windows install though.
I know about YT going to war with ad block and we shall see how it goes. I do download videos sometimes for offline viewing and maybe that caused it? Hehehe, have a mild vent I guess instead.

But I also have something non pony-related to vent about. I work for a company that insists on making us deliver Amazon packages every day of the week, including most holidays. Even now when there’s an inch of solid ice on the roads. They gave me yesterday off but insisted on having us work today instead of waiting until Wednesday when everything’s going to melt away. Fuck you greedy bastards. Anything that’s so urgent it needs to be delivered immediately isn’t going through us anyway, so why risk the health and safety of your employees just to placate a bunch of decrepit boomers who are too lazy to shop at brick-and-mortar stores anymore? I don’t mind working 12 hour shifts on Wednesday and Thursday to make up for having a 3 1/2 day weekend, but I won’t be coming in today, and will probably stay home tomorrow too just to be safe.
Fortunately, sick leave is on the honor system. I don’t even want to get paid for my absence, I just need an excuse to not show up today.

Trying to buy cardboard. In 2022 it was exactly the same as it was all throughout the 90s and 2000s. Now the thickness in every store is at most half what it was just 2 years ago, maybe less. You might technically say this is cardboard but it’s the thickness of high quality award paper.
Just checked. It used to be 0.6 mm thick and now it’s 0.25 mm thick. What the fuck?

Opps, sorry for late reply, really have gotten out of the habit of logging in.
Yes, it was all videos. Behavior was weird as it was all web browsers, then started to work, but just on Firefox, and then two days out started to work like normal. No issues sense.

Goodness, I have heard horror stories of being one of part of one of those Amazon contract companies. Stay safe out there!

I don’t know the demographics and your personal experience maybe different, but I’d be more willing to bet on Gen X and younger and middle to upper middle class families being a large percentage of that as well. At least with the perception of boomers being seen as one of the things keeping some brick and motor stores afloat (though I do admit Amazon is getting to them too).
@UrbanMysticDee
It is that inflation taking its toll. In order to preserve the same price, they finally cut the quality of the cardboard. I’ve seen little things like that in a lot of products in the last three years. (even if a lot of products do so gradually anyway).

Always annoying.

I suppose you’re right about boomers keeping brick-and-mortar alive. I just happen to work in a rural-ish area where the population skews older.
But boomers also have a wealth of free time and disposable income which younger people often lack, and I’m convinced that there are a lot who use online shopping as a source of entertainment because they have nothing better to do.
(though I do admit Amazon is getting to them too).
It has. They’ve also discovered Temu. At least Amazon delivers some of their own shit.

Roughish night. LOL, wow, another vent.

That I do agree is a factor. I have seen what you are taking about as well in some family members of/near that generation even if I have seen some hate on online shopping a bit. Looking around, both our observations are probably correct. This has been my perception. Note the numerous comments that mention boomers. However a recent shift with COVID and yeah, even if I still don’t discount the trifecta of upwardly mobile single women, well off subsets of Gen X/millennials with a established careers and middle to upper middle class families which seem to be where Amazon really pushes the most in their advertising in prime and streaming stuff, COVID might have brought them in larger numbers then what first comes to my mind.
@coolmaster43232
That… I know sometimes they can be one off once, you don’t know why, and that is that, BUT, I also know how suddenly it cam be for a issue that just pops up and stays around.
Did you fix it last time or did it just leave on its own?
