A panel from my Butters the Alicorn blog on tumblr I worked extra hard on, so wanted to share it here too and hear what people think.I don’t do much direct action like this so it was definitely an interesting project, while still keeping it to the same simple style the whole blog is done in. It’s far from perfect but I still like it, while still wanting to hear what could have been done better how.
One of my better backgrounds too, after too much time on it. Some parts were added by copy pasting certain things and mirror them, to save on some time. The rest done the usual way I do backgrounds: Heavy use of the contour and shape tools in PhotoShop to make smooth, fast forms. The background was completely done digitally, nice and fast. The characters drawn by pencil and given colours digitally. I do the pencil work first and scan it, then adds the background behind it to ensure it works together before colouring the characters.Played around with blur effects to give the sense of speed put into that swing of the blue character, Nutjob. Not sure how well placed the sound effect turned out. And unsure about the perspective, I hope it shows the wall is just that far back and not the characters being that much bigger than the background. I did try that grit thing, making lines from a chosen focus point but still need to work that out properly.Anyways, if you wanna figure out the story going on, check out my pony blog Butters the Alicorn.Enjoy!
