Epic flinched, feeling uncomfortable under her mothers unflinching gaze. “Y-yes?” She chanced a look up at her mother just in time to see her furrow her brows. Her ears drooped further but she spoke out in a much clearer voice. “I-I mean, yes, I do! I want to sing, mom.”
Rainbow said nothing for a while, her eyes glazing over as her mind seemed to drift elsewhere. Epic wasn’t sure what her mother saw but whatever it was, brought the furrow back into her mothers brow.
“Is that so.” She sighed, though it was less of a question and more of a statement. Something told her that her mother hadn’t intended for it to be like that. “So that makes all three of you.” She muttered, turning away. “I mean, it’s not like I was expecting much, with you being an Earth pony and stuff but still… Three strikes?”
Epic watched her mothers ears droop, something that rarely happened and filled her with dread and guilt. She hadn’t meant to make her mother upset. Sure, she had broken her promise to be a wonderbolt, like her, but surely her mom understood that this is what she wanted. That this is what brought her joy.
“I didn’t mean to make you mad, mom.” Epic said, her head lowered as she sullenly gazed at the ground. “I just want to sing, is all.” Rainbow let out a sigh as she raised her head to the clouds. The wind blew through her mane and Epic knew she was listening the clouds drift by. She knew because this is what her mom did every time she wanted a ‘moment to herself’. After a minute, she let out a breath.
“I’m not mad, Rhy, I just…” She stopped to look away, a look of frustration etched onto her face. “I’m just disappointed, is all.”
