Fact, this was fanfiction written by Spike. No really, the 10th aniversary comic revealed him as the writer of the comics.

You see? This is where I will actually accept the spikeabuse. Because it’s emotional and heartbreaking and it’s from a comic that I have to say has a very accurate way of showing us Spike’s past. It’s not just a mean spirited image of the characters just being total assholes to the poor thing. It’s an emotional rendition of how Twilight originally treated Spike. Plus this is a cropped panel of a page from the comic and the page that’s supposed come after this one turns out to be much more heartwarming afterwards.
