This little bit of continuity/story clash always bothered me a little bit. (Never a dealbreaker, but just something that sticks out in my brain.) If Princess Twilight was a surprise to these millennium-old villains, then surely Princess Cadance would have been just as big of a surprise. But who knows? Maybe Tirek heard about the wedding. (And in Discord’s case, Cadance wasn’t even introduced to the canon yet!)  

Discord GM: At any rate, I transform the stained glass to celebrate our renewed partnership.  
Tirek: Hmph. Amusing. I take it this means you are satisfied?  
Discord: For now.  
Tirek: Then let us not waste any more time. Canterlot has fallen, but we cannot rest until all of Equestria is–  
Discord GM: As he’s talking – and I presume pacing up and down the throne room – he passes by another mural showing Twilight Sparkle’s visage.  
DM: He notices the purple alicorn out of the corner of his eye and stops in his tracks.  
Tirek: Are. You. KIDDING ME?!? There is a *fourth* alicorn?! An alicorn that now has the combined power of all four alicorns?! *AND YOU WITHHELD THIS VITAL INFORMATION FROM THE START?!?*  
Discord: Hey, it’s been a day of surprises, my friend! I didn’t even know there was a /third!/
