A sort of backstory image on my D&D PC’s will-o-wisp.
 
Vesuvius Daehn was once a great unicorn pyromancer during the last years of the griffon wars, but never saw it’s end. He served in the eastern front, and his skill with flame was unmatched. Recovered documents from the time show that, one night, another guard spotted lights off in the distance, and, thinking they were lanterns from griffon spies, Daehn went alone to intercept them. It’s not clear the fate that befell him, but he was never seen again.
 
Skipping ahead many years, Daehn’s tortured soul, a will-o-wisp, accompanies Edelweiss the Seeker on her adventures. Seeker, supposedly, knows the location of a magical flower that can “turn back the clock on death”. With infinite time and nothing better to do, Daehn and Seeker have a tenuous but symbiotic relationship and travel the material plane together.
