I continue to try get faster when it comes to digital art without giving up too much in terms of quality. I’m still far from where I want to be in both respects, I guess I just have to be patient and continue practicing.

This sketch pays a little reference to the musical side of my cartographer OC Leafhelm. I suppose that things may sometimes become rather too quiet for this very talkative pegasus when to do his job he has to fly far from where many ponys are (and where the land is therefore not yet charted). His lyre may then help to break the silence without talking too much to himself ;)
It was only in retrospect that I realized that a winged character sitting on a cloud playing the lyre could give the totally wrong impression. Idealistic Leafhelm may be, but far from being anywhere near angel territory. At least I didn’t give him a halo but only the rusty oversized helmet onto his heat.

Lately I wrote a few lines of lyrics that Leafhelm might come up with:

Where mountains are so far unnamed
Wilderness still quite untamed
Where rivers’ runs are still uncharted
And any ruins long departed
Where anything’s discovery
That’s where I am gonna be

Leafhelm is my name
And Cloudsdale is my home
But too tight for me the frame
Set by that aerodome

I cannot stand in rank and file
Nor fly in close formation
When there is so much to explore
That is my true vocation

The sky alone’s not right for me
Weather making not my destiny
Form clouds and make winds blow
Instead I shall descent
to map the world below

The blessing of the Pegasi
The view from way up high
Can help others find their way
For that I’m gonna fly!
