America is full of “plastic Paddies” who had one great-great-grandfather come through Ellis Island a hundred years ago and get out the “Kiss me, I’m Irish” t-shirts one day a year. Americans really, really love any excuse to celebrate anything. As national traits go it’s not the worst.

I find it weird that we make such a big deal about St. Patrick’s Day in the U.S., but the Feast of Saint George is such a non-affair. Getting rid of the dragon that wasn’t in Cappadocia is much more impressive than getting rid of the snakes that weren’t in Ireland.
