Original Description:
Friendship Is Magic: The Next Generation begins thirty years after the birth of Princess Flurry Heart, and the story is… a bit darker and more complicated than My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic before it. It delves into the backstory around Alicorns, where they came from, why Discord is the only Draconequus, and who is the prisoner in the deepest darkest cell of the cosmic oubliette that is Tartarus…
(And admittedly, FIM:TNG does take some liberties with the events of MLP:FIM, mostly in regards to Equestria Girls and all episodes after and including The Cutie Re-Mark. That will become more apparent when it comes to the character bios for Sunset Shimmer, Flash Sentry, Starlight Glimmer, and others.)
Rounding out the The Next Generation Mane Six is Piñata Apple, age 27, the son and only child of Big McIntosh & Sugar Belle. He lives on the Sweet Apple Acres compound with his parents, his Great-Granny Smith, his aunts Applejack and Apple Bloom, his cousins Shamrock and Pumpkin Sweet, and the litters of Winona’s puppy grandchildren. He bakes all sorts of apple sweets and has helped to school his cousins in the baking of such.
Piñata’s special talent revolves around producing sweet apple treats of all sorts, a skill that he picked up from his mother Sugar Belle. You name it, if it has apples and sugar in it, he can bake it. No question. He wanted to learn the art of pear sweets from Great-Grand Pear, but sadly he passed away before the foal Piñata was old enough. Piñata yearns to track down the ancestral Pear family recipes so that he can incorporate pear sweets to his repertoire at the new Apple-Pear family reunions.
Piñata’s cutie mark on its own
Although Piñata has a rather rotund figure, this is simply because he constantly taste-tests the foods and sweets that he produces. His cousin Shamrock’s works in her particular orchard are a matter he gets really excited about. He yearns to use many of them in his recipes, but Shamrock is adamant that none of them be used in apple-based recipes until she is well and confident that they can be released for public eating. In the meantime, he eagerly teaches his little cousin Pumpkin Sweet the art of pie-making, and he was quite proud when they came to him with their recipe for apple-pumpkin pie.
Piñata is perhaps living proof that the Apple and Pie family trees may have cross-pollinated at some point in the past. While he cannot possibly match Pinkie Pie as far as hyperactivity, he is more than a match for her as far as sweets production. And he loves to share his sweets with everypony who will take the time to eat them. He is also quite eager to try out foods that other people have made. But if your food is not up to his standard, he’ll be quite upfront about what can be done to improve it. Piñata is very canny about what can be done to improve a recipe, and his advice has helped out many a Ponyvillager’s recipes.
You wouldn’t know it from looking at him, but Piñata Apple was assigned female at birth. The filly Piñata was the darling of her parents and her great-grandparents, but she always felt a bit odd wearing bows or having her mane done up in braids. She felt weird eating food in any quantities. Something felt… off. After her Great-Grand Pear passed away, she cut her mane short and stared at herself in the mirror, saying to herself I am a colt. It felt so… right. And for the first time in her life, she ate voraciously and felt no wrong in this. His friend Mousse’s mother Rarity, who was herself assigned male at birth, helped Piñata come to terms with how to make the change from she to he. And when his little cousin Pumpkin Sweet decided that they felt like neither a colt nor a filly, Piñata and Rarity both aided them in transitioning to their nonbinary identity.
Piñata refers to Big Mac as Pa and Sugar Belle as Ma.
Piñata Apple’s coat color comes from Granny Smith’s hue-shifted to yellow. His mane color comes from Apple Bloom’s bow. His eye color comes from the cupcake wrapper in Sugar Belle’s cutie mark. His hooves take their color from some of the hairbands Sugar Belle wears. His cutie mark takes its color variously from Sugar Belle’s eyes, the frosting on her cutie mark, Sugar Belle’s hairbands, and the colorful flecks in her cutie mark.
We all know how Big Mac & Sugar Belle first became an item, since it was seen in the episode Hard to Say Anything. But since this space would otherwise be empty, it can’t hurt to speak about what happened further between them. About a year after the birth of Princess Flurry Heart, Big McIntosh & Sugar Belle were wed in front of Bright McIntosh & Buttercup’s apple-pear tree, Applejack as Big Mac’s best mare and Night Glider as Sugar Belle’s. Granny Smith adored Sugar Belle’s enthusiasm for baking and sweets, passing down several Apple family recipes to her granddaughter-in-law. They were very supportive of Piñata when he told them that he wanted to be a colt and not a filly, so long as their foal was happy.
