Unfortunately there aren’t too many entries before the fog started to roll in. In fact, Hard Tack seems to have stopped writing in the journal when his wife died. He glued a picture of himself and his wife to one of the entries from around this time. They are a cute couple… She wonders and hopes whether she’ll be able to get a photo like this with Antoine someday. His sadness over the event is quite obvious from the text, and she can barely finish reading his lamentations because of the heartache.
She starts to tear up again, but she quickly stops herself and shakes her head. She gets up, and starts to walk back towards the front room. The mare wants to see if it’s as easy as she thinks to get back up to Antoine’s flat from the ground floor.
As she does she looks outside. It’s going to be dark soon. She should find a place to sleep. On top of that she wants to do it kind of quickly, because it’d be nice to spend some of the night trying to decode this book she got from upstairs.
She weighs her options…
1.) Antoine’s flat is closer, and by his own admission it is somehow protected, probably by the runes he was researching. It also has plenty of food and water. On the other hand, Hard Tack’s body is there.
2.) The owner’s of the hotel were certainly inviting. She is also sure, or at least she hopes, that there are no bodies in any beds there. It would give her a chance to check out the Gryphon Emilia again, or more specifically her leg.
3.) If she stayed at the City Hall she may have a chance to sneak over to Antoine and speak to him during the night. It may look a bit suspicious if she just walks back in now. That, and and it seems this “Mr. Peacock” may be watching him somehow.
