”Baba! You scared Muddy!” G-Paw cried.
”Oh fu—Ah’m sorry!” Somerset tried to console her. “Look, she’s right up there!”
G-Paw’s eyes followed their hoof up the tree to where her cat cowered on a branch.
”Muddy, come!”
The cat didn’t budge.
”Now she won’t come down! Ah’m gettin’ Ma!”
”No no! Ya don’t have ta get Ma!” Somerset insisted, imagining the earful they’d get from Wolfsbane for scaring the cat. “Ah’ll help ya get ‘er yerself!”
”But how? She’s really really high up!”
”Oh, um…” Somerset looked up the tree, pondering how they could possibly get the cat from so far up. Suddenly, they got an idea and knelt down to G-Paw’s eye level. “Hop on!”
”What are we doing?”
”You’ll see. Hang on tight.” Somserset stood up on their hind legs with G-Paw on their shoulders, leaning against the tree to keep the balance. “Can ya get her now?”
”No! Ah can’t reach!” G-Paw whined, stretching her hooves out to no avail.
”Sure ya can!” Somerset encouraged her. “She’s really close. Remember what Nana and I taught ya ‘bout magic?”
G-Paw brightened up. “Oh yeah!” She stood up on Somerset’s shoulders and pushed, strained to make her horn do what she wanted it to.
”You got this, G!” Somerset encouraged, powering their own horn ever so slightly for a little boost.
After a few seconds, Muddy started sparkling and floating through the air. It was working! Before she knew it, she was back in G-Paw’s arms.
”Muddy! Ah saved her, Baba, Ah saved her!”
”Eeyup,” Somerset grinned. “An’ real soon, ya won’t need mah help at all. Yer a natural already!”
”Yeah Baba! Ah am!”
