”Oh my god, she’s so tiny!” Hawk sniffled. “Ambi, look at her! We made this!”
He used his sleeve to dry his eyes, looking over to his husband who was sobbing in a mix of pure emotion and postpartum hormones.
”SHE’S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I’VE EVER SEEN!!!”
”I know!!” Hawk pulled Ambrosia into an embrace and sobbed with him. Until, suddenly, a green flash enveloped him.
”Ambi?”
”W-wha-“ Ambrosia looked down at himself only to find a sight that wasn’t recognizable at all. Instead of his usual black coat, he was cyan and green! And his wings were different! Turning towards the mirror, he found that his mane was also colored differently and a set of purple-blue antlers had appeared on his head.
“What the FUCK!?”
”Ambi, what happened?” Hawk stepped back with wide eyes.
”I don’t know! You tell me, o EQUESTRIAN NATIVE!”
”I don’t know shit, Ambi! I’ve never seen this happen before!” Hawk exclaimed defensively. “This type of thing has only happened to King Thorax and his colony, and that was years ago!”
“Well how do we change it BACK?”
”I don’t know! King Thorax never did!”
”Oh god!” Ambrosia cried, crumpling to the floor and burying his face in his hooves. “I may be stuck a candy-colored horse forever!”
Bedbug suddenly started crying, making Ambrosia freak out more. Hawk had to do something.
“Ambrosia, cut the gas! You’re bugging our kid!”
The changeling stallion went quiet, but continued trembling.
‘Ambi,” Hawk walked over to his husband and began stroking his mane. “Come on, it’s no sweat. I kinda like this look on you. King Thorax got this way ‘cause he shared love, is that really a bad thing?”
“If I can’t change back, yes! What will Mom and Mother think? Or the rest of our family and acquaintances? I’ll be a laughingstock!”
Hawk chuckled. “Chill babe, the changelings are the shit over here. And the people from your world are used to this magic stuff, right? They’ll be fine with it!”
”B-But Bedbug…”
“She ain’t even gonna remember this! And you’re her Pa, she’s gonna love you no matter what ya look like! Whether you change back or not!”
Ambrosia cracked a smile. “We suppose you’re right, love.”
”Exactly,” Hawk winked. “How ‘bout you sit down with her for a bit? Let her get used to her Skittle Pop early.”
”Quiet, you.” Ambrosia nudged him, but still with a smile on his face. “We’ll dye our fur before you call us that.”
”Fine fine,” Hawk rolled his eyes and placed the baby in his arms. “Just get some shut-eye, a’ight?”
”Alright, Little Bird. Love you.”
”Love ya too, Ambi.”
So Ambrosia did nod off with his newborn in his arms, as his husband soon curled up beside him. And when they woke up, they would find that he went back to his same old colors again.
