The former queen Novo had ruled the hippogriffs for several decades, remaining a strong and proud matriarch throughout troubling times. Over her time as queen, it is natural for her to produce a number of offspring to eventually take her place as leader. All had died young due to natural causes, except for Skystar. Novo was at first unsure if she could trust her bubbly and distracted daughter, but after Skystar saved their kingdom from the wrath of the Storm King, Novo didn’t have any doubt.
 
Novo and Celestia’s kingdoms had close relations, as the species of hippogriffs are half-pony. As such, the two often met to discuss of their realms. When Celestia announced her political marriage to King Thorax of the Changelings, Novo was surprised that the new Queen would consider marrying someone of less intention to love them. But she still comforted and grieved along with Novo when their marriage did not work out. Over that time, Novo couldn’t help but feel a closer bond to Celestia, developing into a crush. Out of nowhere, Novo confessed her feelings to Celestia. The alicorn reacted by simply laughing, and embracing Novo into a hug. She also had feelings for the hippogriffs, and the two eventually went on to be married.
 
Novo then figured that this should be the time she should step down. Skystar was then crowned as Queen Skystar, becoming the new leader to the hippogriffs, and Novo, being a consort to a Queen, was now Princess Novo. Novo then went to Canterlot to be with Celestia. A year into their marriage, Novo convinced Celestia for them to have a foal together. Celestia then later gave birth to Princess Goldenrod. The two are still happily married, and Celestia has since made amends with King Thorax, and the two kingdoms are on better terms with one another.
