Fawn Krystalhoof was born into one of the lesser houses of Reine nobility, living her early years securely within the middle class. Born to a family of True Ice artisans, Fawn developed a love for all things beautiful at an early age, although it always chafed her hooves that she lacked the eye-hoof precision necessary to chisel ice. Still, for a time, the young deer continued to learn the family business – but it would not be long before her love drifted to the carols and noels that echoed through the streets of Reine. Singing was fun, and she could do that very well, with little practice! So, she began to hum, whistle, and eventually sing as she worked, her melodies capturing the attention of a reindeer in passing from time to time, but on her own she lacked the talent to enthrall the crowds her dreams entertained, and lacked the means to really be noticed, hidden away in the workshop.
So, once she had finished with her work, Fawn would begin to sing in public, her singing capturing the attention of many, but also attracting the law to her for “disturbing the peace”. For a time, she and the law were frequently rubbing antlers, as Fawn continued to pursue her talent, and was actually starting to get a fair number of reindeer to stop and listen, including, as it turned out, an entertainer of one of Reine’s noble houses. As she finished, he approached, introducing himself, and asked if she would be interested in serving as an entertainer on their behalf. The Greyskys offered her plenty of benefits – recognition, renown, protection, the chance to perform without fear of the law, and to perform for larger crowds – in exchange for her serving them as a representative. She’d have to go where they wanted her within the city, and occasionally make a public appearance or statement, but it was nothing she wasn’t willing to accept.
As far as the Greyskys were concerned, Fawn looked nice, she had a pretty voice, and she could easily be instructed to say anything they wanted. To have another rising celebrity in their pocket could only be a good thing, and if she started to become troublesome they could just cut her rise to fame. What they had failed to anticipate, however, was just how fast Fawn would rise in popularity, once given a proper venue and permission to sing for an audience. For the first month or so, this had caused some concern among the House, as if Fawn were to say something they did not agree with, it would be hard for them to discreetly silence her. She was beginning to make herself known, even to the point where she was on the list for entertaining ambassadors, diplomats, and dignitaries. Only once they realized that Fawn was still too focused on her own popularity to consider standing up to the House did they loose the grasp on the reins of her career that they had been considering pulling in, as having someone as loved by the masses as she could only make the House stronger in Reine’s political system.
At this point in her life, Fawn is a well-known celebrity within the city of Reine, and her name has begun to slowly creep into the other cultures, despite never leaving Reine’s borders.
