Description

“….Of course, Celestia and Luna didn’t know that Sombra would end up banishing the entire Crystal empire alone with him. I mean, their immortal, but they’re not omniscient, am I right?” The alicorn paused and turning, gave her student a halfhearted smirk.

The colt didn’t look up, but continued writing.

Twilight chuckled awkwardly and coughed. “Right…uh, anyway. Once the Empire disappeared in 900 B.L., there was nothing the princess could do. They didn’t even think they would ever see it again, until it resurfaced a 1,000 years later. Do you have all of this down so far, Lokie?”

Lokie scribbled down a few more words before he looking up at his teacher. Without saying a word, he nodded with a smile so small Twilight had to squint to see it.

“Excellent!” Twilight exclaimed. “I’m impressed, Lokie. At the rate you’re going, we could end a little early today! Once we finish this lesson here, and go over your English homework, you can go on ahead home. Sound good?”

Again, Lokie did nothing but nod. Pulling out another sheet of paper, he looked up at Twilight with a ready look in his one visible eye.

Turning back to the blackboard, Twilight began to write, saying, “So, once the Empire returned in 1022 A. L., so did Sombra. The Princesses immediately sent Cadence and Shinning Armor to the kingdom to watch over it untila solution could be found to deal with Sombra…”

——————————————————————————————————————————————

Twilight sure has a thing for teaching kids that aren’t her own, doesn’t she?

So, this is a scene that’s been stuck in my head since I first designed Lokie and although I know I’ve mentioned it before, I’ve been itching to flesh it out more for a long while now. A lot of ̶r̶a̶m̶b̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶ exposition below~

As a colt, Lokie’s severe case of social anxiety made it difficult for him to be in Public, especially if strangers were around. He avoided big events like parties, festivals, celebrations and other community based functions like the plague, and he only felt somewhat comfortable at small gatherings with family and/or friends. When the year came to go to school for the first time, things only grew worse.

Due to his introverted, reclusive nature, Lokie barely made any friends with the children one the mane six, much less with anyone outside that social circle. The idea of being in a room for six hours full of noisy, energetic kids he didn’t know paralyzed him, literally. He had to be carried the first day of school because he couldn’t bring himself to walk. Things didn’t get much better from there.

It didn’t matter that Harmony stuck by his side as much as possible, trying her best to make him feel at ease, and it didn’t matter that Pumpkin went easy on him, helping him with his work after school hours and letting him stay inside during recess. Lokie’s paranoia only grew worse, as did his work. It only took him a about two weeks before he couldn’t take it anymore, and honestly, it’s a miracle that he lasted even that long.

Poor Fluttershy was at the end of her rope, with no clue as to what to do with her son. If he couldn’t got to school like normal, and she didn’t have the time or ability to teach him herself, was Lokie just going to have to grow up uneducated? Desperate for help, Fluttershy decided to voice her troubles to Twilight, who, the minute she heard her friend’s predicament, immediately offered a solution. She would be more than willing to tutor Lokie all acedemic requirements for a small monthly fee. Without a second thought , Fluttershy jumped at the offer and within the space of an hour everything was arranged.

So, how did Lokie take the news of his new tutor? Well, considering he was at the castle 10 minutes early with all of his books and supplies already laid out on his desk, I’d say he took it just fine. Twilight was not only surprised by Lokie’s punctuality, but also by how incredibly intelligent he was, especially when it came to reading and writing. Without all those chattering foals surrounding him to distract him and cause him to retreat into himself, he was able to flourish under Twilight’s teaching.

Lokie finished all required grades without a hitch, with the exception of his magic lessons. It didn’t matter what Twilight tried, she couldn’t get Lokie’s magic to work. The tests she ran showed that Lokie did indeed have a sort of power source inside of him, similar to his sister’s magic readings, only his magic seemed to be stuck, like their was a plug somewhere keeping it from coming out. Eventually, Twilight had to give up and admit defeat; his magic would just have to come out on its own timing. Despite this, it didn’t keep Lokie from passing with flying colors. Lokie graduated the same time all the other foals did, only his ceremony was private and only the mane six families attended.

And that’s the story of how Lokie was homeschooled….in a Castle….sorta.

Oh, and for those who don’t get it, the ‘B.L.’ and ‘A.L.’ In the Dialouge stands for ‘Before Luna(‘s banishment) and After Luna(‘s banishment). I’m sure you can figure it out on your own.
