Here we have a male whose turn is it to look after the hatchling/pup, the mother has been out singing and hunting fish and needs her rest. So for the night the siron will entertain and clean his daughter so his mate may rest until the sun comes up. Even though he is designed to pulverize and maim, he can find games to teach the youngling good life skills and keep her from wandering out into danger. In most cases, due to the danger of predators only two males are allowed to take breaks while the mothers rest and the other sirons guard. Halfway into the night the guard shift changes so not all fathers are left without some time with their family.
