Description

Look At You

“Look at you, Latch. You’re practically alone in Ponyville on the brink of squalor,” her mind mocked. She’d been down this road before for thoughts, beating herself up like this, and feeling lonely despite being surrounded by so many. It was a long, winding road that had no visible end in sight.

“I know,” she replied simply to the open air. No one replied, but that was to be expected when you lived alone. Her face half-buried in a cushion, the will to rise off her couch to combat the day remained elusive once more.

“You have little to no friends, and your constant escape is to run away from your problems for days, if not weeks at a time and eventually come back to try and fight them. You have no will to combat them then, and you have no will to combat them now,” her thoughts pointed out, further dragging her emotional state through the shadows of her mind. “You have no place in your life right now - no place where you belong. You’re nothing. You’re worthless. You’re a failure.”

“I know,” she replied again. Blinking slowly, the tears behind her eyes welled up… but not a single drop escaped. She wanted to just let it all out, to cry, and just weep until her heart felt raw with emotion. She wanted the bottle of emotion she always kept to just finally shatter, rather than to let it all slip out, bit by bit. She didn’t want to hang in this dead, and depressing emotional state she kept from everyone.

“Look at you, Latch. Just look at you…”

Shutting her eyes, a sniffle escaped the earth pony. Grabbing one of her throw pillows, she put it over the side of her head, blocking out the tinted sunlight streaming into her living room. In times like these, not even her constant escapism, or her comfort foods helped her. There was no one to talk to, and no one to help her. She was all alone, left to rot with this vile concoction of emotion.

“I know,” she replied more quietly, practically muted with her face hidden. Curling up, she tucked her arms and legs closer to herself. She wished she had a blanket with her. She wished she had a friend to comfort her. She wished she had someone who would understand. She wished for all of that, and so much more.

The tears then started to spill.

Depression comes in many forms. Everyone experiences it differently.
