Description
The smoke starts to approach him, and he gets an unintentional whiff of it.
It smells nice, like flowers. A second laterit smells like a fireplace, then of acrid rotting flesh, then a smell he doesn’t know but isn’t exactly comfortable with.
The ritual lasts another five minutes, and then the basin is taken away, and Bunsen starts to speak of a zebra who was searching for a rare alchemy ingredient. However he perished before he could find it.
Emerald comments to Ruby that it’s quite sad the zebra couldn’t find the ingredient he was looking for.
“Yeah… Sounds like he had fun trying though, doesn’t it?”
The sermon ends soon after, and Emerald hears some plinking sounds from behind him. Looking around he sees a smaller version of the basin being passed among the people present. People seem to be dropping coins into it.
Emerald quickly shoves a bit into Ruby’s hooves, and as the plate is passed to them he puts another bit in. Ruby catches on, and does the same. It is then collected by one of the shaman. The ritual ends soon after and there is a rush of people who go and speak with Bunsen.
Emerald waits for the crowd to clear, and the pair approach the shaman.
“Well little one, what did you think?” He says with a smile.
Emerald says that it was awesome, and asks what the figures in the smoke mean.
There is a gleam in the old zebra’s eye, and he turns to Ruby and says, “What did you think it meant, child?”
“I’m not sure… There were butterflies, and mares, and a city in the smoke. It was pretty cool, but it didn’t make much sense to me.” Ruby says excitedly.
Emerald looks at the filly confused. That is certainly not what he saw.
Bunsen chuckles at the look on his face and says, “As you probably suspect, not everyone sees the same thing in the smoke. Some says it’s prophecy, others say it’s the mind seeing things where it doesn’t exist. What do you think?”
