Been a soldier, been a beast All my sins need holy water Feel it washing over me Well, little one, I don’t want to admit to something If all it’s gonna cause is pain Truth and my lies right now are falling like the rain So let the river run
When it comes to inspiration for SFM pictures, it tends to come from a variety of places for me. Sometimes it’s specific, like “I want to see this character doing this thing.” Other times, it’s more abstract. Usually the inspiration comes from an emotion, like “hatred” or “lust” or “wonder.”
Another good source of inspiration are songs. When I make an SFM pic inspired by a song, I try to capture the overall mood of the song instead of its specific message. While each song can be said to be “about” something, it’s the overall mood or emotion that’s evoked by the music and lyrics that allows it to speak to us.
This particular image is inspired by “River” by Eminem and Ed Sheeran. In many ways it’s meant to be the antithesis of the picture “Infinite Tempest.” Whereas that picture portrayed Tempest as a fearless conqueror who would stop at nothing to achieve her goals, this one has her reflecting on what she’s lost in the process.
This also has the rather dubious honor of being the pic that’s gotten the most post work in photoshop thus far. The overall final look of the pic was more or less done by accident, even I didn’t see it turning out this way. But overall, I’m quite satisfied with the result.
