Yes. Just look at @Zaknel. It is literally that easy to just tell someone that they are making feel unwelcome.

on a serious note, how does requiring moderators to be visible before they are permitted to use mod tools actually work? what’s stopping someone from becoming “active” on a whim just to do one thing, and then hiding again?

imo it would make much more sense to show all “inactive” users on the staff list with a disclaimer that they are not to be contacted for staff-related reasons
the only reason anybody should be completely removed from the list is if they have been permanently stripped of their moderator status

Whats stopping someone from [X company] from unplugging the server of [X website]? Trust. If we violate the trust, we full expect users to leave. Thats our incentive to not break your trust.

This sounds like a good alternative, I’ll bring it up with the team. I dont believe it will be particularly hard to implement so long as theres not unforeseen hurdles.

I agree with all of this, but honestly if anyone has admin or power user rights I think they should show up on the page. Maybe move them to a ‘backup mod’ status, but if someone has access to advanced rights beyond what your new and fresh users do, they should show up on the Staff page under a header that is descriptive of their role on PB. If they permanently give up or lose their mod status, then they should be removed from the staff page, as you said.

It keeps the trust and transparancy in both the administration and the site and is core to users understanding both who makes decisions and why.

this is more or less what derpi implemented after being called out for similar issues, showing inactive moderators greyed out with (unavailable) underneath, so the code should already be there
i would just suggest changing “unavailable” to something less ambiguous

I am referred to as a “backup mod”, or something along those lines, since I’m not currently proactive, due to University and stuff keeping me busy. Also what Luzion said.
It wouldn’t make much difference, but they can add me to the staff page if they want.

Luzion, it seems like you have an easy and transparent solution here. Would there be a reason not to implement it, especially as Zippy is in favour of it?

Tweak the role / description as you wish so it is accurate about Zippy’s duties (‘Consultant’, ‘Philomena platform expert’, backup mod, etc.), but you only need to add a header to the Staff page and include Zippy under that. Transparency achieved and no worries.

The policy decision initially during start up was in fact due to staff protection. We had many friends who did not want to be “canceled” off site, but still had a significant willingness to assist purely for the start up. The policy then developed to inactive mods, but has obviously since needed further review. The policy was actually reviewed previously at one point and deemed low priority during a time when almost no mods were active, mostly me, as I couldnt be assed to run the entire booru solo and write/change policy.

So yes, its a bit of a snowballing effect, all with good intention but we are absolutely reviewing it, and very likely will come to an agreement here soon. And im glad the community is here to remind us where we are slacking. I dont disagree with you, it should have been reviewed sooner.

I think the only barring issue, is notifying inactive mods. Some of them did not want to be associated with the “nazi booru” but still wanted to help get the sight running. I cant blame them for that, we’re reviewing the different directions of attacking the situation. I dont want to be to reactionary here. Time to think and process is where we’re standing.

Messenger is our discord admin, not much more to it, however; they’ve expressed interest in being a backup mod here on the booru. Once we’ve determined the correct and best course of action, they’ll be include in the list as well.

while i’m not totally keen on the idea of people having staff alts to hide their identity, considering that could cover up questionable choices of staff members (look at how people on this site talk about zippy for example), it’s definitely preferable to having them be entirely hidden

Is there not a link? if its broken it’ll be fixed. I just want to keep the rule page as clutter free as I can.

Looks like I somehow missed it. My bad. Though looking at the tagging page now, I might suggest adding “babycon” alongside “lolicon” and “shotacon”; it’s generally distinct and divisive enough to warrant extra consideration, and since loli/shota is allowed here it’s likely to get a bit more attention over time.

Damn I feel like you did half my job for me thank you. lol

We’re not here to trick anyone, we need to decide on the best course of action. But if you want updates, I can give updates. Just dont expect them every hour on the hour. Theres a bit of back and forth for this.

I don’t like that Zippy can see my ip address, email address and votes but is not listed on the staff page. Anyone who can see private info should be listed. Why don’t you show them as inactive like Derpibooru if you’re trying to be more transparent?

Ive elected to step down for a while. I preach about avoiding bias and reactionary decision making, but then subconsciously take the reins to drive the mod chat without regard for everyones opinion. I need to step back and gather my perspective better. The topic of transparency is still open and in capable hands of THE ENTIRE staff. I just need time to cool off. The impact on decisions and turn around time in regard to all policy making should be minimal. It might even be faster.

aren’t mods able to do a lot of things passively like this? viewing peoples PMs, the actual users behind anonymous comments and uploads, etc
that’s definitely not something people should be able to do secretly, whilst regular users don’t even know they’re a moderator

I assure you, that is not what is going on. Ive got an absolutely monstrous amount of things on my plate and its gotten to me, Im beyond my limit. But theres nothing I can do to prove my state of mental health to anyone. If it was a broken leg, I could show you my xray, but its stress and that doesnt translate. Im logging off tonight. I hope to return in a few days.
