Action lines for great success!
Anyway, this is my daily pony submission for the MLP ATG Day 3 prompt, Rainbow Dash. I’ve continued my expedition with Sai and I’ve decided that once my trial runs out I’m totally buying this software; it is simply amazing.
The issue is that I can’t draw. Seriously. I’ve posted dozens of drawings but the reality is I simply can’t. The reason is that I never developed the necessary fine motor control required to draw a smooth line; whether it be with a stylus, a pencil, or whatever. Sai’s “linework” layer is a godsend to my poor dexterity. Basically what I do is I sketch the drawing with my mouse on a lower layer using a pencil tool and then I fade that layer and create a linework layer on top. There I actually pick the individual line elements and curves that I want to have.
The biggest power I’ve come to see is that I can EDIT the line points directly. This means that when I miss (which I always do) I can simply trim in the line to where I actually wanted it to be. This allows for a very rapid refinement of the final drawing without having to have an especially steady hand or some ungodly level of skill with a drawing pen.
And now that I’ve discovered “pressure” I can even temper the lines (as seen by the eye lashes and top eye line) which is something I’ve only ever done successfully with real ink only once.
swoons It’s like a dream come true.
Oh, and also: Mutant wings are mutant. I’ll need to work on that as I go forward.
Edit: Now with Eye Highlights like I was supposed to have already done. >.<
