At the end of the day, some DMs just wanna show off their cool ideas. The problem is that the players then respond: “You know what would be an even cooler idea? If we murdered your cool idea right out of the gate with our off-the-wall plan.”
And, I mean, they’re not wrong, but-
Discord GM: Oho! Welcome back! How are the girls doing?
DM: They’re pretty much on standby waiting for your next move, so let’s get this thing rolling.
Discord GM: How fortunate that you’ve put me on a time limit, then! And even greater fortune: I’ve had an *idea.* I remember you sharing some of the details of this setting’s lore with me, while you were brainstorming and putting it all together.
DM: Yes…?
Discord GM: I recall you describing Equestria as a sort of “post-adventuring” world, enjoying centuries of peace while ancient evils bide their time and wait to be unearthed.
DM: I do remember saying that, yeah…
Discord GM: And I believe there was one such ye olde villain who specialized in stealing and repurposing Equestrian magic. What was his name… Tyran-something?
DM: Tirek? The centaur? That was an early idea, yeah, but I didn’t end up using him. I haven’t even brought up the legend to the players yet.
Discord GM: Well, if you’ve got a better idea to reverse this petrification than a magic-eating centaur, I’d love to hear it. Besides, this is a prime opportunity to show off more of your trove of lore! I’m doing you a favor!
