The show is canon within EqG, but EqG isn’t canon within the show. Unless, of course, you consider spin-offs canon-defining.  
I actually gave this some thought. There’s no full confirmation within FiM that anything that happened in EqG also happened in FiM.  
I guess the best way to think about canonicity is “not canon” = “not confirmed to have happened”

Wait, how is EqG not canon? I watched “Forgotten Friendship” and sunset when to equestia and interacted with the shows characters.
 
For the record, I haven’t watched any other episodes. I guess I assumed so.

Well, they’re from a spin-off. Depends if you consider spin-offs canon.  
In other words, those are canon if and only if EqG is canon.
