If only her brother was here. He’d look after her. Where was he anyway? Dad had stayed at home to wait for some furniture to be delivered to the new house, but Diamond Charm should be here by now. Did he get delayed or something? What if something bad happened?
As Velvet was running worst case scenarios through her head, a brown filly with poofy black hair approached her. “Hey there!” the filly said energetically, spooking Velvet out of her thoughts. “You’re new, right? Because I know every pony my age around here, but I don’t know you! I’m S’more! What’s your name?”
Velvet frowned and averted her gaze, not sure how she should respond. She just needed to give the filly her name, right?
“You’re kind of shy, aren’t you? That’s okay. I can just give you a temporary name for now. Let’s see, to me, you look kind of like a…”
“V-velvet,” Velvet finally managed with a stutter.
“Huh? Did you say something?”
“My name… It’s Velvet Fashion.”
“Oh, I see!” S’more grinned, “well, it’s nice to meet you, Velvet. We’re going to be best friends starting today, okay?”
“O-okay,” Velvet said, a bit surprised at herself. No way it was that easy to make a best friend, right? Still, she supposed it couldn’t hurt to tag along with S’more for a little while. What was the worst that could happen?
