After Zephyr Breeze graduated from mane therapy training, he was a new pony. He had a new confidence in himself, and he was ready to take on the world.
However, that didn’t last long. Zephyr fell back into his old ways after being denied from several mane-styling job positions. He still had that old fear of failure deep inside him, and he felt there was nothing he could do about it.
Peeved by her brother’s regression in confidence, Fluttershy searched for a job that would help him back on his hooves. Meanwhile, Pinkie found out that her father had been injured and her family was in need of a temporary farm hoof. Agreeing that a job on the rock farm would help Zephyr learn self-discipline, Fluttershy and Pinkie arranged for a room for him in exchange for work.
Life on the rock farm proved to be vastly different than what Zephyr was used to. He was expected to get up early and work all day, with no time for lazing about. At the head of the operation was Limestone Pie, the eldest of four sisters and Zephyr’s boss. She commanded him with a no-nonsense attitude and always ensured that everypony did their work.
While intimidated by her aggressive nature, Zephyr thought there was something charming about Limestone. Of course, judging by his previous crush on Rainbow Dash, Zephyr had a thing for tough mares. While he mostly worked so he could have a place to stay, part of him really wanted to impress Limestone.
As time went on, Zephyr began to fall head over hooves for Limestone. He admired her self-discipline and her ability to run an operation. Eventually, he even began to volunteer for extra work in an effort to catch her eye.
Limestone did not have any romantic feelings for Zephyr. She was irritated by his laid-back nature and despised his every attempt to flirt with her. However, she took great satisfaction in the fact that he was working so well on her farm. To her, he was a valuable asset in the business of rock farming and she was even glad to have him working for her.
After about a year or so of working on the rock farm, Zephyr finally got a job at a mane-styling studio. Since Igneous was healed from his injuries and able to work again, Zephyr was given permission to go. He was a confident stallion again with a newfound sense of self-discipline. His memories of the rock farm were soon kicked to the back-burner and he forgot about his crush on Limestone.
After Zephyr left, life on the rock farm returned to normal…for the most part. There was a part of Limestone that actually missed that flirty, immature featherbrain of a stallion. After all, Zephyr was the first stallion outside of her family that wasn’t scared away by her attitude. Not to mention, he was a good rock farmer when he was actually motivated.
Some time later, Igneous and Cloudy Quartz announced that it was time for their daughters to consult the choosing stone, as per Pie Family tradition. To Limestone’s surprise, the choosing stone pointed her to Zephyr Breeze. While she didn’t have a full-blown crush on him, she liked him quite a bit. Deep down, she didn’t mind that he was to be her betrothed.
Following the orders of her parents and the choosing stone, Limestone set out to find Zephyr and explain the situation to him. While surprised at first, Zephyr was overjoyed to have found love. So overjoyed, in fact, that he decided to spend some “quality time” with his new fiancé
Soon afterwards, Limestone received the shocking revelation that she was pregnant. While she had initially wanted to spend time with Zephyr and get to know him better before rushing into anything, she decided to get the wedding over with now so their child could at least be born in wedlock.
And so Zephyr and Limestone had a good ol’ traditional shotgun wedding. Zephyr was terrified to see her entire family wielding shotguns and he almost wanted to fly away in fear, but he loved Limestone too much to actually do so. The wedding went on without a hitch and the two settled into their new life together.
Some time after the wedding, Limestone gave birth to their son, Hawk Eye. He was a rambunctious kid indeed and, even though he was just a baby, his mother wondered how she was ever going to groom him into a suitable heir to her rock farm. It didn’t help that Zephyr didn’t discipline him the way she wanted him to. Despite the hardships, Zephyr and Limestone were happy to have Hawk.
When Hawk was a few years old, Limestone gave birth to a daughter named Turquoise Edge. Even though Turquoise was younger than her brother, she eventually proved to be a more suitable heir to the rock farm than he could ever be. So, Limestone and Zephyr let up a bit on Hawk’s discipline and started grooming Turquoise.
Life went on as normal for a few years until one day when Holder’s Boulder started shaking and cracking. Alerted by her children, Limestone rushed outside just in time to watch as it cracked open. Inside was an oversized baby dragon. She was horrified by the sight and immediately called the authorities to dispose of the dragon and ensure the safety of her farm.
As she waited for a team of authorities to arrive, Limestone and her family had to take care of the dragon. They enlisted the help of Pinkie’s friend Twilight, who had experience in handling baby dragons. For some reason, the dragon was especially attached to Limestone, so she became her primary caretaker. Soon, she started becoming attached to the oversized whelp and dubbed her Fire Opal.
When the team of experts finally arrived to confiscate the dragon, Limestone was having second thoughts. She had proven herself capable of taking care of her, and they had grown too close to be separated. She put her hoof down and drove the authorities away. Limestone and Zephyr then adopted Fire Opal as their daughter.
As the children reached adulthood, Turquoise enlisted in the Equestrian Army and quickly worked her way up the ranks. This combined with her no-nonsense attitude made Limestone a proud mama. On the other hoof, Hawk met a changeling prince and started going out with him, much to everyone’s surprise. Meanwhile, Fire Opal became the family’s “guard dog”, driven by her loyalty to her Ma Limestone and everypony else on the rock far,. The differences between each sibling caused plenty of conflict within the family, but deep down they did love each other.
Despite the hardships, Limestone does love her daughters and her two featherbrained boys. Deep down, she doesn’t regret marrying Zephyr, and she’s happy to have her two biological children and her dragon daughter. Not long ago, neither Zephyr nor Limestone thought their lives would take them down this path, but they’re pretty glad they did.
