Man, it’s been a while since I struggled with a deadline and I forgot how doing so pumps my blood and makes me get into a haze-like state of mind. It’s like nothing around me exists and there’s only the tablet, the keyboard, and the PC monitor. It’s kind of scary, I guess this is what it feels like when you focus so much into something your reality warps around you and disappears.
One thing to consider on this picture is that Commander Hurricane isn’t exactly a hero. She’s not there to make friends, and her best method of negotiation is a blade to the throat, so Private Pansy’s antics about calming down and dialogue don’t gel with her worldview. I like that we’re doing this from her perspective and nobody else’s, because out of all three she has the most muddled and unclear motives. Is she looking for a better land to save her people, to sate her need of conquer, to expand her armies, for all three reasons, or none of them? This makes her a more interesting character than, say, Princess Platinum (who has the most hideous hair style and how’s costume I despise for being so bland yet so finicky and such a pain to draw). Also, I had fun with the shading. Notice how it degrades panel by panel from warm greens and pinks, to the dead greys and blues.
