The CMC’s Cutie Marks Orientation Guide
A quick guide to the proper way to use the Cutie Mark Crusaders’ cutie marks, since both artists and the show itself keep on getting it wrong (the show’s fixed this as of Season 6, at least).
An easy mnemonic to remember is “Red Toward Head”. Whichever way the filly is facing, the red side of the mark should point toward her head.
Sweetie Belle has a unique cutie mark. The inner symbol (the music note) DOESN’T flip even though the rest of the mark does. As far as I’m aware, hers is the only cutie mark in the entire show that’s like this.
