The results are immediate. The stallion let’s out a rather girlish scream, and Emerald hears the knife in his mouth clatter onto the ground. The stallion starts lashing out with his back hooves, and after a blow to the stomach he finally get’s Emerald to let go.
The soldier swivels on the spot and yells, “Why you little~~!”
…But is then beaned on the back of the head by Hope’s stick, and the stallion drops like a sack of grain.
“Thank goodness you are okay!” She says, rushing to Emerald and biting at the ropes.
“I-if I couldn’t even save one child, I don’t know what I…” She has a sudden realization and runs back to the stallion and picks up his knife and undoes the ropes with that.
“Come on, we need to get out of here!”
“But… Where are we going?” Emerald asks.
“I have a friend nearby. Err, at least I think she is. It’s kind of hard to tell.” Hope says, pulling out what looks like some sort of deep red spherical compass, “I don’t know if I should bug her but… I can’t think of anyone else we can go to…”
Despite the lateness of the hour and the amount of activity both of the ponies have been doing they make their way quite briskly through the woods, stopping only briefly to pick up Hope’s rucksack from the side of the road.
The ponies make it to the intersection where this adventure first started, and Hope turns east. She runs for a second that direction before coming to a stop and looking backwards, noticing that Emerald isn’t following.
“Is something the matter, my dear?”
Emerald isn’t sure what to say. He doesn’t really want to go that way…
