Grandma Coal found herself a place under the shade of a large willow tree in my Royal Equestria Security Forces (RESF) dreamscape. It was going to be another warm and muggy Ft. Trotterdale day, but right now in the late morning it still wasn’t too oppressive.
The old kirin had just purchased a orange-vanilla creamsicle from local street vendor who frequented Singing Gull Park where she was currently. The mare was now sitting on a shady park bench enjoying her treat. Yes it wasn’t noon yet, but Grandma Coal didn’t care. She liked orange-vanilla creamsicles and she was a big mare. She just needed to remember to brush her teeth when she got home.
Grandma Coal had been enjoying her ice cream for a few minutes when a young earth pony mare approached her with her phone in her right hand. She was wearing a dress suit like many of the working professional mares that inhabited the office buildings that surrounded the park. Slung over her right shoulder was a messenger/laptop bag. The earth pony paused in her steps and looked over at the elder kirin.
“Excuse me. I need to take care of some immediate business and I can’t do it while walking. Also this looks like the only shady spot around. May I please sit down with you and take care of it?”
The kirin made a slow sweeping gesture with her right hand. “Of course dear. There’s plenty of room to share on this bench.”
“The earth pony came over and sat down. “Thank you.” She said as she pulled out her laptop and opened it. Firing up the computer the mare started scrolling through various emails and messages. This went on for a couple of minutes. However as the mare was typing away she spoke softly while continuing to stare at the computer screen.
“I got your message. What your asking for is feasible, but I will need a couple more days to make the necessary arrangements. Not until after next the City Council meeting. Will that work with your timeline?”
The old kirin kept enjoying her ice cream bar. After a moment she replied while not looking at the mare. “That will be cutting things close dear, but my client can work with that.”
The young mare kept replying to her emails. “Good. I can get the head of Social Services to sign off on the necessary paperwork….but we’re going to have show our gratitude for their assistance in this matter. They are looking to run for one of the City Council seats this fall. Perhaps a generous donation to their campaign might help with expediting the process and keep the whole thing discreet.”
Grandma Coal glanced over at the young mare. “Oh. I do hope she’s not gunning for your seat dear.”
The earth pony chuckled. “No. No she’s not, but we need her help to keep this operation on the q.t. Also, she can help us fabricate the legends for these foals. You do realize that many of them will likely be going to separate institutions, so they may not see each other ever again?”
Finishing her ice cream the kirin looked at the wooden stick that her treat had been on just a few minutes ago. She took a deep breath and sighed. “Yes that is unfortunate but not unexpected. It’s not optimal. Several of them have apparently formed friendships. however we must work with the cards we’ve been dealt.”
The kirin tossed the wooden stick in a nearby trash can. “And has the Ft. Trotterdale police investigation still not picked up the scent of our operation?”
The young mare closed her laptop. “Yes they are investigating, but not vigorously, the disappearance of Broken Jaw and her crew.

However at the moment they’re more focused on tracing the pipelines that Broken Jaw was using to obtain and distribute her goods. They seem to be unaware of the presence of the whole sordid situation involving the foals.”
Grandma Coal nodded her head. “Good. Good to know. If that changes dear please let me know promptly through regular channels.”
Stowing her laptop back in its bag. The earth pony started to get up. As she did she nonchalantly place a tiny, solid state, data drive on the bench. “I have to get back to the office. You had asked if I could obtain any additional information concerning the foals. It’s not much but I was able to obtain some of their school records if they had attended schools in the Ft. Trotterdale area.”
The elderly kirin casually palmed the data drive. “Thank you dear. Although I hope this will not accidentally draw attention to our efforts.”
The young mare stood up and brushed so nonexistent dust from her skirt. “Unlikely. Remember a few months ago when there was a hack and security breach of the city servers? It was in the local news. Some of that data was unfortunately the school records of the Ft. Trotterdale school district. Well some of that data appeared soon after for purchase on certain totally disreputable websites. So through certain safe channels I’ve used in the past I was able to obtain a copy for a nominal fee. This may help with creating some of the foals new legends.”
The earth pony adjusted her jacket. “I’ll be in touch.” Then she walked away. Grandma Coal watched her leave; then she slowly got to her hooves and walked away in the other direction.
