Original Description:
After months of silence, Scootaloo’s parents do their first good deed in years. They’ve listened to Scootaloo’s letters and found her a fun summer camp she can go to, one specifically meant for acquiring cutie marks. It’s a lesser known organization, but they have top-notch methods and her parents have the money to burn for a specialized summer program.
Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle think it’s amazing that there’s essentially a Cutie Mark Crusaders school, and they wish they could go as well to support her. It’s alright though, since Scootaloo says she’ll write often and tell them all about her adventures once summer is over.
And so they waited. And waited. But the Scootaloo who got on that train was never going to come back.
The pamphlet reads: “OUR TOWN SUMMER CAMP. No cutie mark? No problem! Tired of being an outcast because you’re a blank flank? Come to Our Town to discover who you are meant to be. We have a 100% Cutie Mark success rate!”
You see, in my universe, there’s no Cutie Map that directs the ponies directly to Starlight’s village. There’s no Tree of Harmony or Twilight’s marketable crystal castle or anything like that. At most there are Elements of Harmony, but those are more or less simply ancient magic gems that activate their powers when they come into contact with somepony with the qualities that resonate with them.
So… Starlight’s village thrives for a little while longer than in canon. She’s had this operation running for nearly a decade now, and while she does like a tight-knit community, which, if you guys remember: HAD CHILDREN IN IT. IN THE SHOW. I figured that makes sense if the kids were had there. But I think she also likes extending out to young and impressionable minds with her summer camp program.
They’re a gold mine for Cutie Mark research and magical potential, so why shouldn’t she? It’s as easy as reaching out to kids who have no family or nowhere else to go, or think their days are over before they started. Kids who will spout this rhetoric to others, and pull in new believers and double down on their feelings if ostracized. Kids who won’t be believed if they speak up.
Snapshutter and Mane Allgood were easily convinced by one of Starlight’s door knockers when they heard of the wonders of their town and how it helped ponies come to peace with their Cutie Marks. They didn’t look too much into it, nor did they care about the price. They just wanted the daughter they never knew to finally improve her life and stop with the tear-stained letters about silly Cutie Mark problems.
Wish granted.
