“Good afternoon, love.” She said, “Do you know what today is?”
“Uhh, your day off?” Azure sheepishly replies, feigning his cluelessness.
“It’s your birthday, you knuckleheaded husband of mine.” Azure sits next to Celaeno, staring at the bag on her lap, “Here, I got this for you.”
Opening the bag, Azure found a simple brown box. Taking it out, he gave a gentle shake to gauge what it could be. It was something sturdy for sure. Opening it, his question was answered when the contents revealed to be a white coffee mug. A week ago, his coffee mug broke when it slipped out of his hands. Now, he has another that he can use for his morning brew. However, there was one thing that struck him as odd about it.
“World’s Greatest Dad?” Azure read the words printed on the mug, confused, “Dear, I’m not a father.”
“I know.” Celaeno replied, grabbing Azure’s attention, “Well, not yet anyway.” Celaeno began rubbing her midsection as Azure looked on. Then, the gears in his head started to spin as he began to put two and two together. The mug… Celaeno’s gesture… to him, there was only one reason.
“C-Celaeno,” Azure gasped, “Y-You’re…”
“That’s right, honey.” Celaeno sang, “I’m pregnant.”
Hearing those words leave her mouth, Azure’s eyes began to water as joy flooded his heart. His wife, the one he pledged his undying love to, has said that he now bears his child. Having held his nieces before, the thought of holding and caring for his own flesh and blood made his happiness shoot to new heights. He was excited as much as she undoubtedly was.
“OHMYGOD!” Azure joyfully exclaimed as he picked up his wife in an embrace, spinning around the room, “This is the greatest birthday present ever!”
“I knew you’d like it.” Celaeno said as they settled back on the couch, “I can’t wait to see it when it comes.” Gingerly petting her belly, Azure held his wife close, taking in the intimacy of the moment.
“Neither can I.” Azure replied before pulling her into a slow but passionate kiss. As they shared their love, the thoughts of them starting a family fueled their desire. Breaking the kiss for some much-needed air, their eyes never left their gaze, loving and tender. For Celaeno, the thought of a child growing inside her warmed her heart. Azure, once being an orphan, felt overjoyed to father a child, to care for it alongside his wife. Nothing else mattered to him in that moment but her and his yet-to-be-born son or daughter.
“Celaeno, I love you very much.”
